Team members assist with the Sunday Baptism celebration, sharing the joy of the sacrament with the families. We also participate in the Monday evening Parent Preparation Meeting. We act as greeters and prayer leaders while offering information about Baptism.

Commitment: Team meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month. There are varied aspects of membership and time commitment is flexible. Some members assist with the Sunday Baptism once a month on a week of their choosing. Other members prefer to assist with the Parent Preparation Meeting once every 2-3 months.

MOMS: Developing a Ministry

Contact: Lyn Quinn (261-0952)  flwrgrrl@optonline.net

Ministry of Mothers Sharing (MOMS) is a gentle program of self-awareness and awakening to the spirituality of motherhood which brings about a sense of belonging, hospitality, faith sharing, and genuine community. It is an eight week experience for mothers to come together to share their stories, and bond by gaining insight into their current experiences. Through the process of personal and spiritual growth, women have the opportunity to clarify their values, claim their giftedness, and bring these new strengths to their family relationships and to the Christian community. “MOMS” is offered in the spring. After completing the eight week program, the women are invited to join the alumni group which meets every Monday from September – June. The alumni group has been meeting for over twelve years.

Commitment:  Once a week for an hour and a half.

RCIA

Contact: Judy Corbellini (rcia@saintathonyofpadua.org)

Those who are interested in becoming Catholic or in completing their Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) meet weekly for formation, information, and prayer.  The process is begun when the person first contacts us. Sacraments are received at the Easter Vigil. Gatherings continue through Pentecost – usually early June. A follow-up process is available.

Commitment: For those who would be sponsors the time commitment is an hour and a quarter on Wednesday nights. Some Sunday liturgies when the Rites are celebrated are also necessary. Most important is an openness to “walk the journey” along with a catechumen or candidate, our model being the disciples on the road to Emmaus walking with Jesus.

Religious Education

Contact: Patricia Seibert  (261-1306 x.226)  pseibert@saintanthonyofpadua.org

Ministry of Religious Education assists parents with the responsibility of forming their children in the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church as they prepare them for sacraments and adult life.  Religious Education Classes for Levels 1-8 are held in Trinity Regional School on a weekly basis under the guidance and supervision of a volunteer catechist.  In addition to catechists, parishioners are needed to volunteer to serve as substitute catechists, hall monitors and office workers.  The Religious Ed Program begins in September and ends in April during the following times:

Saturday: 9:00 am – 10:15 am and 10:45 – 12:00 noon
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 4:30 pm – 5:45 pm
Wednesday: 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm (Level 7 & 8 only)

Commitment: Catechists facilitate learning and faith formation in a classroom setting for 1 hour and 15 minutes each week. A catechist is conscientious, dedicated to the ministry, willing to follow the curriculum and open to God’s Spirit. A teacher’s guide is provided for the catechist to cover the curriculum of each grade level. Catechist Formation Meetings are offered throughout the year. The Diocese of Rockville Centre requires all adult volunteers to attend a 3-hour Virtus Training, “Protecting God’s Children.”

Scripture Study

Contact: Ann Finley (261-1077 x.208)

This program involves: study, prayer, and sharing. It is informational as well as experiential, encouraging people to recognize how God is active in their present circumstances. This Scripture study encourages active engagement of God’s word to our lives.

Small Christian Communities

Contact: Ann Finley (261-1077 x. 208) afinley@saintanthonyofpadua.org

These groups provide an opportunity to gather with other parishioners in a Small Christian Community. The Scriptures for the Sunday Liturgy are read and members of the group share what the Word of God is saying to them. It provides a prayerful preparation for the coming Sunday Mass. Our parish provides various opportunities of deepening our faith and prayer life within the context of a Small Christian Community. Some groups meet weekly during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Some groups have decided to meet once a month (Praying Alone and Together). Other groups meet from September through June. “We gather to slow down, to notice our lives, to become more deeply connected with the presence of God in our daily lives; to be more related to one another as people of faith. Small church communities are “true expressions of ecclesial communion and the centers of evangelization”  (Pope John Paul II –Christifideles Laici, n.26).
