Religious Education

As children approach the first grade, it is a good time for their parents to think about their formal Religious Education/Faith Formation. However, children’s first and primary religious educators are the ones raising them. Parents have to keep in mind that religious education does not replace church, and the catechist does not replace the parent.

Religious EducationAs Christians, we have a moral obligation to attend mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.  Parents especially should be committed to the tradition of our Roman Catholic faith, and not only teach it to our children, but live it and set a Christian example for them. Religious education will be of little or no benefit to them if what they learn in the classrooms is not reinforced in the home. Rather, the material presented in the classrooms should be a mere supplement to the lessons being taught by the family.

We recommend that parents communicate with their child’s catechist regularly to stay informed of the lessons and activities taking place in class. By combining the efforts of the religious educators with those of the parents, we can be assured that we are doing our best to produce young adults who will continue their journey after Confirmation and go forth with a strong connection to our church and a deep relationship with our Lord.
