Become a Catechist

Volunteers are invaluable to the Religious EducationProgram at Saint Anthony of Padua.   Volunteering with the children of our parish is a rewarding, joyful experience.   The Religious E ducation Program has a volunteer opportunity to suit your gifts and talents – read below to find out how you can contribute to the faith development of the young people of our parish!


Volunteer Opportunities:

Classroom Catechist:  Plan lessons, prepare materials, and conduct class each week. (Those who commit to a weekly volunteer position as Catechist are eligible for a waiver of RE fees for their children.)

Substitute Catechist: Substitute if catechist is absent.

Hall Assistant: Answer questions at the front desk, copy materials, monitor hallways  and peform administrative duties as needed.

Materials Volunteer:  Assist wtih materials preparation and office tasks, monitor hallways, set up coffee/tea for parents and volunteers.


Virtus Requirement

As required by the Diocese of Rockville Centre, all volunteers must complete the Virtus seminar called “Protecting God’s Children for Adults.”

VIRTUS is the brand name that identifies best practices programs designed to help prevent wrongdoing and promote “rightdoing” within religious organizations. The VIRTUS programs empower organizations and people to better control risk and improve the lives of all those who interact with the Church.
