The Suffolk County One-Stop Employment Center provides help to individuals seeking jobs and to employers seeking workers.

The agency maintains job banks and specializes in job clubs, job fairs, computer workshops and focus groups.

Visitors can get help to write a resume or navigate the internet.

  • The St. Anthony of Padua Parish Outreach van provides rides to pharmacies, grocery stores, Sunday Mass and medical appointments.
  • Service is available free of charge for people who live in the boundaries of our parish.
  • Rides are provided as far as Huntington, Commack, Northport, Centerport and East Northport.
  • We also provide rides to Sunday Mass at St. Anthony’s.
  • The van is equipped with a lift for people who use wheelchairs.

LIFELINE PHONE: Qualifying consumers can apply to receive a monthly discount on landline telephone service or wireless service. Benefits include a bill credit and a waiver of the federal subscriber line charge for landlines, and mobile data usage and/or voice usage allowances and reduced rates for wireless customers. MONTHLY INTERNET BENEFIT: The new federal Affordable Connectivity Program seeks to ensure that households can afford broadband access for work, school, health care and more. The benefit provides a discount of up to $30 per month for internet service for eligible households.There is also a one-time discount of up to $100 to buy a laptop, desktop computer or tablet from participating providers if households contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price. Households with incomes up to 300% of the State Income Standard are eligible for the child care subsidy program. For example, a family of two with a household income of $54,930 or a family of four with household income up to $83,250 can apply for child care assistance.

People experiencing a mental health crisis can simply call or text the numbers 9-8-8. This system includes someone to call, someone to come or somewhere to go during a mental health or substance abuse crisis. The number is a connection to trained counselors to provide information and emotional support.

New York State’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program provides help to landlords and low-income tenants who have experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19. The program aims to prevent evictions and homelessness. It can pay for up to 12 months of past-due rent and for up to three months for future rent. The program also can pay for up to 12 months of overdue electric or gas bills. Documentation and participation by the landlord and tenant are required. Payments are made directly to the landlord or utility. Housing Help Inc., a local not-for-profit agency, is helping participants apply. The Immigration and Refugee Services office of Catholic Charities of Long Island helps immigrants fleeing persecution, as well as people seeking better opportunities, family reunification, language training, citizenship programs and employment counseling.

The agency helps immigrants achieve self-sufficiency and become part of their new communities. The office helps with legal counseling, document preparation and representation on matters involving U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and immigration court. For information, call 631-289-5210.

People who are blind, disabled or older than 65 can get help to apply for some government health services. Programs include Community Medicaid, Medicaid for home care and nursing home care, and help to pay for Medicare Parts A and B, and/or prescription drugs. Federally certified counselors will assess a household’s financial situation. A counselor can help mediate with banks and mortgage companies to prevent the loss of a house. Affordable housing: Long Island's high cost of living can be especially hard on families with one or more HIV-ill members, so Catholic Charities of Long Island maintains 25 affordable rental units for low-income individuals, couples and families.
