Volunteers are invaluable to the Religious Education program at St. Anthony’s. Volunteering with the children of our parish is a rewarding, joyful experience!

The Religious Education program offers various volunteer opportunities to suit your gifts, talents, and availability:
Volunteer Opportunities:

Plan lessons, prepare materials, and conduct class each week. Catechists may co-teach (two or more catechists in the classroom at the same time) or team-teach (multiple catechist takes turns teaching each week). (Those who commit to a weekly volunteer position as a Classroom Catechist are eligible for a waiver of tuition fees for their children.)
Classroom Aide:
Assist the classroom catechist as needed. Duties may include helping children find Bible passages, assisting with classroom control, and passing out crafts/handouts.
Substitute Catechist:
Fill in for a catechist who cannot make their scheduled class.
Front Desk Assistant:
Staff Front Desk during classes, answer questions, assist catechists, monitor hallways, and perform administrative duties as needed.
Office Volunteer:
Assist with materials preparation and office tasks, including student registration and materials distribution.
Security Volunteer:
Monitor the hallways and building entrances, and help maintain order at drop-off and pick-up times.
Any person wishing to volunteer for our program in any capacity must complete a Volunteer Application Packet. These forms are not available online – you may visit the office in-person and we can give you the paperwork, or you can request that a copy be mailed to you.
Virtus Requirement
As required by the Diocese of Rockville Centre, all volunteers must complete the VIRTUS seminar called “Protecting God’s Children for Adults.”
VIRTUS is the brand name that identifies best practices programs designed to help prevent wrongdoing and promote “rightdoing” within religious organizations. The VIRTUS programs empower organizations and people to better control risk and improve the lives of all those who interact with the Church.
To see a list of upcoming VIRTUS sessions in your area, please click here. (Please note: if a catechist has already taken the VIRTUS course, they must submit a copy of the completion certificate with their volunteer paperwork.)
